The Welsh town of Brecon is taking part in an innovative bottle return scheme trial.
The digital deposit return scheme (DDRS) gives participants 10p for every eligible container they recycle.
About 1300 of the town’s 4300 households have signed up to the scheme – a figure which organisers believe will see some 25,000 containers processed.
According to The Guardian: “Residents who signed up for an account can scan the stickers on their smartphone and earn 10p a time. They can then recycle the containers in their normal Powys county council kerbside collection bin or at community points.”
