PLASTIC FREE SCHOOLS

The youngest generation is right at the forefront of environmental protection with the elimination of single use plastic first in its sights.

It’s easy to forget that it’s only two years since a then-15-yearold schoolchild, Greta Thunberg, gave a fresh impetus to discussion of climate change with her solitary school strike. She has noted:

The problem of plastic pollution in the ocean is even worse than anyone feared. There’s actually more microplastic 1,000 feet down than there is in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

Securing plastic-free status meant that Mold had to persuade three schools to sign-up and the honours go to Ysgol Alun, Ysgol Bryn Coch and Ysgol Bryn Gwalia. Many schools are receptive to the plastic-free message and are able to use materials provided by Surfers Against Sewage.
