“Well, I’m blown away,” said a delighted Sam Hubbard after taking her first lot of medicine strips to Saughall Pharmacy for recycling via Terracycle.
MPR member Sam was surprised at the number of packs she collected (“Who’d have thought 7kg of strips in two weeks!”) and the Pharmacy staff were delighted.
Not only are the packs not being incinerated, but the 7kg is worth £7 towards the Pharmacy’s charity (believed to be their local school).
Thanks to local businesses for their efforts: Good Health Emporium, Rhydymwyn Service Station and Griffiths Pharmacy Garden City for being drop-off points, and Boots Mold for collecting the strips that they transfer into customer strips.
Keep up the great work everyone!
Making new recycled products
Once collected, the empty blister packets are separated by polymer type and cleaned if necessary. The material is then extruded into plastic pellets to make new recycled products.
After being recycled into a raw material, it is sold to manufacturing companies who produce end-products, so completing the journey of recycling.
These products include outdoor furniture and decking, plastic shipping pallets, watering cans, storage containers and bins, tubes for construction applications, flooring tiles, playground surface covers and athletic fields, and much more.
