PET FOOD POUCHES

Recycling points for pet food pouches are being trialled in Pets at Home stores.

Supported by pet food producers Mars and Purina PetCare, the pilot scheme will see recycling bins installed at 40 Pets at Home branches, with the nearest to Mold being at Great Boughton and Bangor (a full list is on this page).

A survey has shown that 26% of consumers are confused over what pet food packaging can or can’t be recycled, with 14% wanting their local pet shop to offer recycling for pet food packaging.

The flexible plastic packaging used for food pouches is difficult to recycle and is not collected by most councils notes this press release.

The idea is to turn used packaging into new products and, if successful, the scheme will see recycling points in all Pets at Home stores by the end of 2022.
