Concerns about the amount of money given to chemical recycling research has been highlighted by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (E&T).
Chemical recycling aims to recycle waste plastic that is difficult to deal with mechanically by turning it back into its molecular building blocks.
Despite over £18 million having been awarded to chemical recycling projects in the UK, critics claim the technologies have a negative environmental impact, reports E&T, and that there should be more focus on reducing plastic consumption in the first place.
