From a spray-on coating to bacteria-based packaging, companies around the world are developing alternatives to single-use plastic.
An edible, tasteless and invisible plant-based spray for fruits and vegetables has been created by California company Apeel and is being used on cucumbers and avocados sold at Walmart and other supermarkets, while Notpla of London is producing compostable packaging from seaweed, which takes just weeks to break down.
