LABELLING SCHEME GROWS

Crisp packets and metallised snack and chocolate wrappers are being added to a product labelling scheme aimed at helping consumers recycle more materials.

From 1 January 2022, the On-pack Recycling Label initiative run by OPRL Ltd will encourage consumers to recycle the packets and wrappers “at large supermarket” [sic].

“Ahead of plastic bags and wrappers being collected directly from people’s houses, supermarket collection points are a critical stepping-stone” said Helen Bird, a member of OPRL’s Technical Advisory Committee.

Over the last year, the number of people taking bags and wrappers to supermarkets has nearly doubled, she explained, and we expect this to grow significantly. Full details can be found in the OPRL press release Crisp Packets to Move to In-Store Recycling Labelling [PDF].
