Having won Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games in the women’s 470 sailing class, Hannah Mills wants to raise awareness about environmental issues.

After realising that every single beach, marina and harbour she’s sailed in is “littered with plastic”, Hannah launched the Big Plastic Pledge in 2019, with the aim of eliminating single-use plastics from sport.

“I want to use my sporting background, networks and profile to raise awareness, change behaviour and influence others on environmental issues,” she says.

Despite her sporting successes, the European Climate Pact Ambassador suspects that tackling the plastic crisis will be her greatest challenge yet.
