PANDEMIC PLASTIC PROBLEM

The sharp rise in demand for disposable masks, gloves and other personal protective equipment (PPE) during the Covid pandemic has had a negative impact on the fight against plastic pollution.

The problem is illustrated in a selection of articles collated by the Geneva Environment Network, a partnership of over 100 environmental and sustainable development organisations based in and around Geneva.

Drawn from a wide range of sources, the collection paints a grim picture of the impact of single-use PPE over the past year.

Other topics covered by the Geneva Environment Network on its Facing the Plastic Pollution Crisis page include: international cooperation on plastics; plastics and biodiversity; plastics and climate change; plastics and human rights; and plastics and trade.
