Plastic Free Communities was created in 2017 by Surfers Against Sewage to tackle plastic pollution.
The campaign’s latest Impact Report shows some 43 million items of plastic are being removed from circulation each year.
Over 800 towns and cities have now signed up to the initiative; between them they are home to more than 29 million people.
There are nearly 4,600 businesses signed up too (their efforts are responsible for driving 90% of plastic reduction) and 230 councils have “resolved to reduce plastic usage and support plastic free initiatives”.
