PLASTICS THREATEN ECOSYSTEMS

Save the Earth written in green on brown background.

Researchers claim that chemical pollution is now so pervasive that it threatens the stability of global ecosystems upon which humanity depends.

Scientists say that plastics are of particularly high concern, but that some 350,000 synthetic chemicals are now tipping the Earth’s previously stable environment into instability.

Published as the paper Outside the Safe Operating Space of the Planetary Boundary for Novel Entities, the findings don’t make for easy reading, but The Guardian has produced a useful summary in Chemical pollution has passed safe limit for humanity, say scientists.
