Mold has joined the list of Tesco stores with soft plastic packaging recycling points.
Crisp packets, sweet wrappers, cling film and many more types of packaging can now be dropped off in the entrance to Tesco’s Mold store.
A trial in Wales and the South West of England earlier this year saw nearly a tonne of soft plastic collected a day, with the most popular items returned being bread bags, fruit and vegetable packaging, crisp packets and salad bags.
In the 171 trial stores, 85% of customers said the initiative helped them to recycle more than they would have done without the drop-off facility.
With all its large stores now accepting soft plastic waste, Tesco expects to collect more than 1000 tonnes of packaging each year. The waste is washed and sorted before up to 80% of it is recycled into new products and packaging.
